HOST A REEL ROCK 16 SCREENING
Thanks for your interest in hosting a Reel Rock 16 screening! Every year, we look forward to working with our network of climbers, adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts with an entrepreneurial spirit who help bring the Reel Rock stoke to communities around the world. If this is your first time hosting, take a look at the FAQ below to answer any questions you may have.
Upon submitting your Host a Show query, you'll receive an email with the next steps.
Yes! Reel Rock events are locally-hosted screenings run by student groups, climbing gyms, retail shops and individuals who have entrepreneurial spirit.
No. While we’d love to be at every show, we’re not able to travel to each locally-hosted screening. Reel Rock show hosts are completely in charge of putting on a great event, including finding a venue, ticket sales + promotion.
While we do have a minimum fee for hosting a Reel Rock screening, we work in partnership with each host to collect payment based on the ticket price, turnout and overall scope of your event. Reach out on our host query form and we’re happy to provide more information.
Reel Rock screenings can be held in a number of places such as local theaters, school auditoriums, breweries and even climbing gyms with proper screening equipment. We encourage you to get creative and find somewhere that feels appropriate for your audience and community.
For Reel Rock 16, all hosts will be able to put tickets on sale and promote their event anytime after March 22, 2022. You’re able to host your event at any time after that date, keeping in mind that you may need some lead time for ticket sales and event promotion.
You bet! We want to help ensure you run a smooth and successful event. After you have signed a contract and paid your deposit, we will share the electronic press kit, access to our poster files, logo, and high-resolution images no later than March 1, 2022. You’re responsible for printing any posters.
We want all Reel Rock shows to be fun community events and to meet the local organizer’s goals - whether that’s to turn a profit, raise money for charity, or provide free entertainment for members and supporters. The financial model will depend on the type of show you host. Will you be renting a venue? Will you be paying for a projector? What will you be charging for ticket prices, if anything? Many show hosts will pay for posters and tickets to be printed as well.
You bet. Local sponsors are a great way to help cover the licensing fee. Sponsors who directly compete with Reel Rock’s national sponsors (The North Face, Yeti, Black Diamond + TruBlue Auto Belay) will not be allowed, but local climbing gyms, gear shops and other small businesses are often excited to contribute to the screening or help you promote the event.
Definitely! We encourage hosts to get creative - maybe you’re helping raise money for a favorite non-profit, a cleanup day for your local crag, an outreach program for your gym, or a bolting fund for developing a new wall.
The films are not officially rated - however, they may contain occasional adult language and themes and not be appropriate for all audiences.
While we’re excited at the prospect of watching these films in person with our friends, we know that communities are experiencing vastly different realities as the pandemic continues. We encourage you to check state and local guidelines in order to make the best call for your community and adhere to any restrictions that may be in place.
If local or state restrictions shut down your screening, we’ll refund any deposit paid to us. However, we’re not responsible for any additional venue fees or marketing expenses you may have incurred.
What kind of turnout do you expect? If you are screening in a retail shop or climbing gym please make sure there is adequate seating room so viewers can be comfortable – the program is usually about two hours long. What are your plans for projection? Our films look best screened from a computer; we will send you a download link to screen the film, but you’ll need to ensure you have the proper projecting equipment, screen, speakers and AV hookups. What price of tickets will help offset your cost but still be accessible to your community? Are you in alignment with local Covid guidelines for gatherings, and what social-distancing precautions will you take to make sure your guests feel safe?
